I’ll be the first to admit that during the summer months, I don’t put much effort into the clothes I wear. I’m either in work clothes for my internship, or I’m lounging around the house in running shorts and a (probably dirty) t shirt.
When It’s 95 degrees outside, it’s hard to find the motivation to dress up. You know you’ll be sweating through your clothes the second you step out the door, and I hate wearing tight clothing in the heat. Also, I’m lazy. Lol. I love dressing up and I think it’s fun, but most of the time I don’t want to put in all that effort.
And that’s where the MAXI DRESS comes in! Yay! I’m obsessed. Dare I say…maxi mayhem? Lol OK moving on.
Benefits of da maxi
My favorite thing about maxi dresses is that they instantly make you look like you put in effort. As mentioned earlier, I’m a lazy lady. Trying to put the perfect outfit together stresses me and I end up just going back to bed, lol. Maxi dresses are literally just one piece of clothing, but you look so put together when wearing it. It takes two seconds and zero effort to throw one on, but everyone will think you’re a supa cool fashionista babe.
Just to reiterate to you how little effort I put into my physical appearance and life in general: If you wear a maxi, you don’t have to shave your legs. That’s a life hack right there. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to get dressed up and go out looking cute, but….uh oh. I haven’t shaved in two weeks (ain’t nobody got time to shave every other day)! So, just throw on a maxi and everyone will be none the wiser.
Another reason I love da maxi is that you don’t have to worry about your undies showing. I love wearing dresses, but some of them are short, and I’m constantly tugging at the back to make sure it doesn’t ride up. You also have to be careful when you’re outside, in case the wind decides to be rude and expose you to the world. Maxis go all the way to your feet, so there’s no need to worry about any of these things when wearing one!
How I like to wear da maxi
I like to wear maxi dresses with cute strappy sandals and light jewelry. I feel like the maxi is kind of a statement piece in itself, depending on which one you’re wearing. With this one from Lulu’s, I like to just wear a necklace and some rings. Anything other than that would take away from the super pretty pattern and bright colors of this dress. But, I tend to have a more simple and laid-back style, so if you like going all out, then fo sho do it, yo!
Right now I’m really loving the off the shoulder style, so that will definitely be the next one I buy. I think it looks so pretty and gives you the option of wearing several necklaces without it cluttering the outfit, since your entire neck and shoulders area are bare. Plus, it’s great for showing off your summer tan!

Favorite places to buy da maxi
- Lulus: A little expensive, but they have such a beautiful selection. I wouldn’t buy every maxi dress from here (that would definitely break the bank) but I think a couple of statement dresses from here would fit in anyone’s wardrobe perfectly.
- Urban Outfitters: OK so this place is expensive too, but UO always has pretty good sales. I rarely if ever shop the new styles at Urban. I always go straight to the sales and look through there. You can always find some great pieces!
- Forever 21: This store is stepping up their game. I’ve always thought of F21 as one of the cheaper clothing retailers, which it is, but now they have some really cute dresses for summer that look like pretty good quality. You can also still get some more simple dresses for a great price from here as well.
And that’s all I got to say about that. I would love to see all of your cute pics in your maxis, so send them my way!
